One of the most popular changes that tends to take place at this time of year is buying or selling a home. People are just in a better frame of mind in the Spring and so house sales and purchases just seem to be at their highest at this time of year.
The most important thing to remember when purchasing a new home, whether it is a re-sale or a new build, get mortgage approval BEFORE you jump into anything. Don’t be seduced into putting yourself in a position where your mortgage overtakes your life. Always stay within your budget, because mortgage rates can go up, and you have to be prepared to be able to carry your house payments if that should happen. Also, if you buy a new home from a builder, make sure you understand the process and procedures. Believe me there is a lot to know, and the more you know the smoother the ride. If you are looking for a re-sale, make sure you get a home inspection. Don’t ever buy a home without one, because even if the house looks amazing, there may be underlying problems that you can’t see and that can end up costing you a fortune. Your new home could turn into an expensive nightmare.
Buying a new home is a great investment, but it is also your home. Keep in mind that you don’t need all the bells and whistles, especially if you can’t afford them. Those things can always come later. Don’t spread yourself too thin, because the end result can be that you could lose your home if the costs become too much to handle.
Remember your home is what you make it. It doesn’t have to be the biggest, or have all of the expensive upgrades, what it needs is to be in the area of your choice, it needs to be in the best condition possible, and it needs to be in your price range. Then, all that is left to do is to turn your new house into your home.
Happy house or condo hunting!
